The Switchblade is not an invention of the 50s, it was manufactured 100 years earlier in large quantities. In Solingen virtually all renowned knife manufacturers offered "Switchblades", which had proven to be a practical tool for everyday life, work and hunting. Since the 1950s, however, the term "stiletto" has become a synonym. The background is that a large number of soldiers have brought home knives from war places in Italy (where these knives were called "stilettos") as souvenirs. The roots of the legendary "stilettos" can be traced back to the mid-19th century, with the production of the first modern "Coltello Scatto" between 1900 and 1920 in the city of Maniago.
